Now here is the guy who managed to ride the gaming video wave. Love him or hate him, the fact remains that he has 90.1M subscribers on YouTube who would either love to see him fail or to see him succeed. He is a true-blooded gamer and now-commentator who made his claim to fame creating “Let’s Play” videos, which became a big hit with his fans.
In 2021, the global gaming market is expected to hit or surpass the $180 billion revenue barrier. PewDiePie may be on the right way to breaching this mark. By February 2019, his channel has already received 20 billion video views and counting. His Twitch account has also made the 1 million subscriber mark, making him one of the bonafide stars of the video game streaming world.
2. VanossGaming (Evan Fong)
Vanoss comes in at a close second to PewDiePie. If PewDiePie blazed the trail, then Vanoss most certainly picked up his scent and followed right after. He currently has around 24.3M YouTube subscribers and his posts are usually simple – it’s a montage of him, meeting other fellow content creators or players, and then shooting videos of them while in-game.
Most of the games that he plays in his videos are current big hits such as Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto. In these videos, they usually employ humor while highlighting the gameplay of the said game. His channel was created in 2011 and has amassed over 9 billion views since then. He has tried to branch out to other media with his creation, the Rynx channel, which focuses on music, but it has yet to make the same splash as his gaming channel.
3. Markiplier (Mark Fischbach)
The LA native Mark Fischbach followed PewDiePie’s formula – his YouTube channel also shows “Let’s Play” videos of different games. However, he specializes in the horror niche – think about games like Five Nights at Freddy’s or Slender: The Eight Pages. His videos are currently at the 10 billion views mark, and his channel is 44th among the list of most subscribed channels.
He has a few flavor breakers in his videos and has been known to cover outside his niche. Games like Minecraft sometimes find their way into his playlist. He is also known for his charitable works, always lending a hand to the organization by collecting donations. His channel was first created in 2012, and has made its way to rank #61 on the list of New Media Rockstars Top 100 Channels.

YouTube video game streamers have come from all parts of the world, and this one – Jacksepticeye – hails from the English isles. He is Irish, and he uses it in his videos by starting it off with a greeting in his strong Irish accent.
The 29-year-old also uses the “Let’s Play” formula in his channel, but always makes it super-fun with his natural comedic flair. In his native Ireland, his channel is the most-subscribed. He also maintains a 500,000-strong Twitch channel as well.
His “Let’s Play” videos have constantly gained the eye of viewers and streamers alike. A testament to how his fame has spread is PewDiePie acknowledging him in one of his own videos, but that was more than just a nod. It helped the creator gain an instant 10,000 new subscribers in just four days.
5. DanTDM (Daniel Robert Middleton)
No, Daniel Middleton is not related to any of the UK Royals, but he almost has the riches to be one. He managed to make $16.5 million in net worth off of streaming video games on YouTube. Daniel’s channel can be described as “child-friendly;” Minecraft is his game of choice, focusing on different modes of the game, and a majority of his audiences are children aged 5 to 10 years old.
While not related to the UK Royals, he is a Brit himself and is also a pro-gamer and author. In addition to Minecraft, Daniel’s favorite video game to cover is the hugely popular Fortnite. However, for a time, he went under the name The Diamond Minecraft, as he usually explored the different areas of the game when he was starting out.
6. Ninja (Richard Tyler Blevins)
His 21.8 M subscribers on YouTube speaks for themselves. The streamer, going by his more famous handle of Ninja, is widely known for his gameplay videos and tutorials, which is also available on the other streaming platform, Twitch. He is the ‘PewDiePie’ of Twitch, with around 13 million followers on the streaming app.
Blevins started by participating in eSports teams, mostly playing Halo 3. His popularity only skyrocketed at the same time that Fortnite Battle Royale took off; Blevins became a household name once Fortnite broke into the mainstream in the earlier part of 2018.
Becoming a YouTube video game streamer can be just as simple as recording and uploading it online, but the challenge remains that you have to capture your audience. Fortunately, there are these six, who made the sacrifices and overcame difficulties to lead the way. Perhaps their popularity will rise, but the main thing here is that they are continuing to create content – something you should do, too, if you ever decide to follow in their footsteps.
